Shhhhh……

I’m really excited about some of the handmade items that have blessed our home this Christmas.  With the multitude of shows and on-line orders that I had filling my plate this year, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to make a lot of my gifts.  But that’s okay, as I am constantly surrounded by handmade beauty each and every day thanks to Etsy.

I wanted to share a few of the awesome handmade items that I have bought for Christmas this year.. and a few that I have received!  I’m not saying who they are for… just in case 😉

Someone I know is going to be sporting these awesome earrings really soon!  SevenPly recycles broken skateboards into fun and beautiful jewelry.  I just adore her shop, and knew someone who would too!

I love these sock monkey cup cozies!  I have actually purchased two now, one as a birthday gift and one for a Christmas gift.  CrookedHookCreations has some of the cutest crochet items I have ever seen.  And these monkeys are perfect!

One of my favorite shops on Etsy is OrangeThyme.  Rachel makes some amazing smellies!  And I mean that in the best possible way!!  I’m looking forward to receiving this cute little soap in the mail soon.  Complicated Reindeer is the brainwork of both Rachel and her 6-year-old daughter.  A sweet-smelling soap with lots of red glitter…. just like Rudolph’s nose!  There is none of this magical soap in stock at this time, but let me assure you that there isn’t a bad product in this shop.  They are all amazing!

I was lucky enough to have an awesome Secret Santa this year through my Treasury Tree Team.  Erica of BisonGirl makes some adorable baby booties.  Here is an example of her work:

Owl Booties!

I haven’t fit into baby booties for quite some time now, but Erica found some awesome items from other Etsy sellers and had them sent to me.

TNTees is a shop after my own heart!  TNTees litterally stands for “Trash into Tees” and that’s exactly what Jenelle does.  She makes  gorgeous jewelry, adorable clothing and functional and fun items out of recycled t-shirts.  You can see why I love this shop so much!  I just love my new produce bags 🙂

I was also fortunate to receive 2 amazing items from DirtyDeedsSoap from my secret Santa.  The lavender soap smells so lovely, and the Chocolate Truffle Lip Balm is absolutely heavenly.  I don’t know how Erica knew that I was a soap addict, but I want to thank her and DirtyDeeds  for helping fuel my addiction 😉

Chocolate Truffles for your lips!

I most likely will be too busy to blog the next few weeks, so I wanted to leave you all with my Christmas wish….

I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season!  Bless you all and I will see you in 2012!

Handmade, Eco-Friendly Gifts for Him

I often find it hard to come across great, unique, handmade gifts for men.  I find it even harder to come across great, unique, handmade gifts for men that are also eco-friendly…

So this year, for Father’s Day, I decided to make it my mission to find an original gift for the hubby that would not only be something that he would love, but also something that would show he loves the earth.  Oh, and if it was affordable?… Bonus points!!

In my quest, I can across an amazing seller, Mindy Humphrey of Mindy’s Beer Gear (aka MindysDesigns).  Mindy makes the wallets, purses, luggage tags and wrist cuffs from beer boxes.  Being that Jeff (my hubby) was in desperate need of a new wallet, I was beyond stoked when I found this awesome shop on Etsy.

Mindy’s wallets are recycled from used 6-pack beer boxes.  The outsides are covered in a clear vinyl and the inside are lined with a black or white vinyl.  This not only makes them durable (essential for men) but also waterproof (essential for beer-drinkers)!  Not only are they recycled and earth-friendly, but she does not use any leather so they are Vegan friendly as well.

I don’t know if my husband ever met a beer he didn’t like, but his favorite brew is Curve Ball Ale by the Pyramid Brewing Company.  It’s a seasonal beer, and luckily is available through the spring and summer (baseball season).  When I looked, Mindy didn’t have any Curveball items in her shop, but when I contacted her she told me that she happen to have a box there and could whip me up a wallet in no time.  I had the wallet in my sweet little hands in less than a week!

Jeff loves his new wallet and gets compliments on it all the time.  And now, I have some great ideas for the men in my life come Christmas time!  Thanks Mindy 🙂

The “Beautiful Outlaw” Earrings

I just posted these gorgeous earrings last night.  Made from salvaged 9mm bullet casings, these earings make repurposing look GOOD!

"Beautiful Outlaw" Earrings

Plus, no only are the bullets “recycled”, but the pieces of chain are salvaged excess pieces from previous projects – too small to use… up until now!  Talk about Eco-Fabulous!!

I’m thinking that I may need to keep a pair of these beauties for myself.  And while I’m at it… I may just need some boots to go with!

We will be friends until we are old and senile…

I thought of my best friend Katie when I was making this bottle cap necklace.  I once gave her a card that said “We will be friends until we are old and senile…  And then we’ll be new friends again!”

Here is my ode to BFFs everywhere!

Consume less, share more and live more simply

Happy Earth Day!

In years past, I have set goals for myself every Earth Day.  Do this, don’t do that, use less, reuse more…. Looking back at past goals, I realize that I didn’t accomplish every single goal I made, but as a whole, I consumed less, shared more and lived more simply.   So from now on, that is the goal.  And anyway I find to accomplish it should be celebrated.

Here are this weeks Four Fabulous Finds…. Earth Day style!

I just love these biodegradable pots from RushofWings.  Made from recycled newspaper…. awesome!

I love terrariums, and I love vintage ball jars.  So of course, I love these Large Vintage Ball Mason Jar Terrariums by DoodleBirdie.  I think I need one for my office 🙂

Not only do these adorable Dryer Sheet Sachet Pillows tell you to love the earth, but they are also made with recycled t-shirt sleeves and chemical free ingredients!   Just one of many ingenious earth friendly items from zJayne.

I don’t know about you, but I love getting gift cards for presents.  There is nothing like the gift of shopping!  However, did you know that around 17 billion plastic credit cards and membership cards are produced every year; the majority of which end up in the landfill when they expire.

Most credit cards are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) which is a petroleum-based plastic, currently non-recyclable.

EcoPix has found a great way to recycled these cards!  Their guitar pics are not only functional, but pretty darn awesome if you ask me!

Four Fabulous Friday Finds 4-1

Trying to get back on the Friday Finds!  Here are my latest and greatest…

This cute little bird soap from Orangethyme has actually been a favorite of mine for a long time.  It has to be the cutest little soap I have ever seen!  It makes me want to find a little ceramic soap dish in the shape of a nest so that I can give him a home 🙂

Always a sucker for finding new ways to recycle, I found this light to be beautiful and GENIUS!   Titye is an amazing shop with items like book lamps, tea cup lights and door knob coat hangers.  I love it!!

ConduitPress is another great example of taking recycling to a whole new level.  I absolutely love her leather journals, but my favorite are her book safes.  Charge your iphone, hide your money or conceal a flask… there is one (or two.. or ten…) for everyone!

Danielle Spector  at ReshapeStudio has the cutest and quirkiest handmade ceramics I’ve ever seen.  Her talent and sense of humor really show in her work.  I just love this creamer and sugar set!

Don’t forget to enter my Avatar Contest.  You have until the end of the day Sunday, April 10th to enter.  Don’t delay!

Four Fabulous Friday Finds 2-18

This weeks Friday finds are quirky and original – my favorite kind!

I think every man should be interchangeable like this (just kidding, honey… calm down!).  These “Make Your Own Man” Interchangeable Cubes are the creation of Sandra Etrovic (http://www.etsy.com/shop/SandraEterovic).  They are made from prints of her own original illustrations and are simply adorable!

These Mug Shot greeting cards crack me up!  I just love the look on the cats face.  Kate Funk (http://www.etsy.com/shop/katefunk) is behind these hilarious cards – along with many others featuring her cute kitty, AC.  I know of a few dogs that may need to be processed into central booking!!

Okay, these are simply adorable.  Check out Mibo (http://www.etsy.com/shop/mibostudio)  downloadable, do-it-yourself art.  The Wild Bunch (pictured here) is a collection of 4 make-them-yourself paper animals.  Fun for kids and adults!!

Okay, so I have a soft-spot for recycled / repurposed art.  This gorgeous scarf by Malam (http://www.etsy.com/shop/malam) is made from recycled vintage mail bags.  Just one word… AWESOME!!
