Shhhhh……

I’m really excited about some of the handmade items that have blessed our home this Christmas.  With the multitude of shows and on-line orders that I had filling my plate this year, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to make a lot of my gifts.  But that’s okay, as I am constantly surrounded by handmade beauty each and every day thanks to Etsy.

I wanted to share a few of the awesome handmade items that I have bought for Christmas this year.. and a few that I have received!  I’m not saying who they are for… just in case 😉

Someone I know is going to be sporting these awesome earrings really soon!  SevenPly recycles broken skateboards into fun and beautiful jewelry.  I just adore her shop, and knew someone who would too!

I love these sock monkey cup cozies!  I have actually purchased two now, one as a birthday gift and one for a Christmas gift.  CrookedHookCreations has some of the cutest crochet items I have ever seen.  And these monkeys are perfect!

One of my favorite shops on Etsy is OrangeThyme.  Rachel makes some amazing smellies!  And I mean that in the best possible way!!  I’m looking forward to receiving this cute little soap in the mail soon.  Complicated Reindeer is the brainwork of both Rachel and her 6-year-old daughter.  A sweet-smelling soap with lots of red glitter…. just like Rudolph’s nose!  There is none of this magical soap in stock at this time, but let me assure you that there isn’t a bad product in this shop.  They are all amazing!

I was lucky enough to have an awesome Secret Santa this year through my Treasury Tree Team.  Erica of BisonGirl makes some adorable baby booties.  Here is an example of her work:

Owl Booties!

I haven’t fit into baby booties for quite some time now, but Erica found some awesome items from other Etsy sellers and had them sent to me.

TNTees is a shop after my own heart!  TNTees litterally stands for “Trash into Tees” and that’s exactly what Jenelle does.  She makes  gorgeous jewelry, adorable clothing and functional and fun items out of recycled t-shirts.  You can see why I love this shop so much!  I just love my new produce bags 🙂

I was also fortunate to receive 2 amazing items from DirtyDeedsSoap from my secret Santa.  The lavender soap smells so lovely, and the Chocolate Truffle Lip Balm is absolutely heavenly.  I don’t know how Erica knew that I was a soap addict, but I want to thank her and DirtyDeeds  for helping fuel my addiction 😉

Chocolate Truffles for your lips!

I most likely will be too busy to blog the next few weeks, so I wanted to leave you all with my Christmas wish….

I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season!  Bless you all and I will see you in 2012!

Consume less, share more and live more simply

Happy Earth Day!

In years past, I have set goals for myself every Earth Day.  Do this, don’t do that, use less, reuse more…. Looking back at past goals, I realize that I didn’t accomplish every single goal I made, but as a whole, I consumed less, shared more and lived more simply.   So from now on, that is the goal.  And anyway I find to accomplish it should be celebrated.

Here are this weeks Four Fabulous Finds…. Earth Day style!

I just love these biodegradable pots from RushofWings.  Made from recycled newspaper…. awesome!

I love terrariums, and I love vintage ball jars.  So of course, I love these Large Vintage Ball Mason Jar Terrariums by DoodleBirdie.  I think I need one for my office 🙂

Not only do these adorable Dryer Sheet Sachet Pillows tell you to love the earth, but they are also made with recycled t-shirt sleeves and chemical free ingredients!   Just one of many ingenious earth friendly items from zJayne.

I don’t know about you, but I love getting gift cards for presents.  There is nothing like the gift of shopping!  However, did you know that around 17 billion plastic credit cards and membership cards are produced every year; the majority of which end up in the landfill when they expire.

Most credit cards are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) which is a petroleum-based plastic, currently non-recyclable.

EcoPix has found a great way to recycled these cards!  Their guitar pics are not only functional, but pretty darn awesome if you ask me!

These dark chocolate-brown fingerless gloves are made from a salvaged t-shirt and are decorated with tan and brown buttons and bows.  They are a “slouchy” style and can be worn with a short or sleeveless top, or over a tighter long sleeve shirt as well.  They are really fun, cute and just perfect for the fall season.

I made the front page of Etsy!!

My Recycled T-Shirt Necklace made the front page!!

Yesterday was quite the day!  My Ivory Roses – Recycled T-shirt Necklace made the front page of Etsy.  The exposure lead to a huge jump in views, two sales (including the featured necklace) and an inquiry about some custom work.  I was so excited!

Selling the necklace was a little bittersweet… It was my first t-shirt necklace, and definitely one that I was very proud of.  But I am so happy that someone out there will be enjoying it!  Selling it has definitely inspired me to get making some more, so stay tuned!

New Ideas for Old T-Shirts

So, I’ve been making recycled t-shirt scarves for a while now, and I just love it.  They are so fun to play with and I love the comments I get when I wear them.

Recently, I decided to try a few new ideas using salvaged t-shirts as a medium.  I’ve made a few flower brooches using some of the scraps I had left over in making my scarves.  They are quick, simple, and they accent the scarves really well.  Here is an example…

Coral Pink Recycled T Shirt Scarf with a White Rose Brooch

Also, flower “Bib” Necklaces are pretty new to the market and are really becoming popular.  I had seen a few at a boutique recently and just fell in love with the idea.  But, I wanted to make it my own, so I decided to try and create one using some of the excess scraps.  I have to say I am really impressed with my first run at it.

You can find this for sale in my Etsy shop, just $35.  http://www.creativityismessy.etsy.com

Sparrow Nest Necklace Sold!

Exciting news from the Etsy front!  I have officially made my first sale!  Whoo-hoo!

I put my Sparrow Nest Necklace on my Etsy site last night and early this morning I received notification that it sold!  I was way excited about it!

This weekend I have a few more things to get posted on the site, and a few more pieces I am currently working on.  I have another T-Shirt Scarf in a wine color that I finished last night and a beautiful jasper necklace that I finished up earlier this week.  Although it is just one sale, it has really inspired and motivated me to get some more stuff done and listed as soon as possible.

Stay tuned!  More great things to come 😉
